MANNERS OF SACRIFICING THE ANIMAL

Some deeds are recommended in sacrificing an animal:

1. One should sacrifice a camel. If not possible then a cow. If that is also not possible then one should sacrifice a sheep.

2. The animal to be sacrificed should be healthy.

3. Camel and Cow should be female.

4. The camels fore limbs should be tied till the thighs. A person should stand on the right side and strike a spear, knife or a dagger on its neck deeply. The camel is sacrificed standing.

وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِیَ لِلَّذِیْ فَطَرَ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَ الْاَرْضَ حَنِیْفًا مُسْلِمًا وَ مَا اَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِیْنَ اِنَّ صَلَاتِیْ وَ نُسُكِیْ وَ مَحْیَایَ وَ مَمَاتِیْ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ لَا شَرِیْكَ لَهٗ وَ بِذَالِكَ اُمِرْتُ وَ اَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِیْنَ اَللّٰهُمَّ مِنْكَ وَ لَكَ بِسْمِ اﷲِ وَ اﷲُ اَكْبَرُ اَللّٰهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنِّیْ۔

I. Sadiq (a) says: The animal to be sacrificed should be facing the Qiblah and recite this supplication while slaughtering:

اَللّٰهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنِّیْ كَمَا تَقَبَّلْتَ مِنْ اِبْرَاهِیْمَ خَلِیْلِكَ وَ مُوْسٰی كَلِیْمِكَ وَ مُحَمَّدٍ حَبِیْبِكَ صَلَّی اﷲُ عَلَیْهِ وَ عَلَیْهِمْ۔

5. One should sacrifice himself and if not possible then keep his hands over the hands of person sacrificing it and say:
